FAQ
What is AIPAD?
AIPAD is a social enterprise creating low-cost, functional, and use-case specific assistive devices for trans-radial amputees. Our goal is to restore mobility, independence, and dignity through affordable technology.
Why focus on trans-radial individuals?
Trans-radial amputees make up a large portion of the amputee community worldwide. Yet, 80% of amputees—especially in historically marginalized communities—do not have access to functional devices. We are building solutions specifically to meet their daily needs.
What makes your devices different?
Our devices are:
Custom and functional
Non-electric and lightweight
Durable and affordable
We use 3D printing, metal welding, and accessible materials, always guided by feedback from the people who will use them.
Where have your devices been tested?
So far, we have:
Prototyped 2 devices
Launched 3 pilots in developing regions
Equipped 13 trans-radial individuals
Engaged 36 community stakeholders to guide R&D
Who are your partners?
We work with organizations such as Innovate Calgary, Lab2Market, UCalgary, and The Chosen Tanzania, as well as healthcare providers, NGOs, and advisors in multiple regions.
How can healthcare providers get involved?
Healthcare providers can partner with us to extend access to amputees, improve health outcomes, and reduce system costs.
How can governments or NGOs get involved?
By partnering with AIPAD, governments and NGOs can support economic inclusion, improve healthcare outcomes, and create evidence to inform disability policy.
How can investors support AIPAD?
We welcome values-driven investors interested in scaling affordable technology while achieving impact alongside sustainable returns.
